Notes for Earl Townsend Post: He was called "Bud". * Earl enlisted in the Air Corps Nov. 1940. While there, he served as an Army Air Forces SSG in World War II. At Christmas time, he was stationed at Wheeler Airfield in Honolulu, HI. He was declared Missing in Action (MIA) over the Pacific Ocean. He was 19 years old. He has a headstone at Midland Cemetery, Midland, Midland County, Michigan, United States of America. * Newspaper Clipping Abstract: "Earl Post Missing in Pacific Fighting Midland Segeant Reported Lost Following Air Raids On Oct. 12: Son of Mrs. Beatrice Post Staff Sgt. Earl T. Post, 22-year-old son of Mrs. Beatrice Post, 1110 East Carpenter, is missing in the Southwest Pacific theater of war, the mother was notified here today. A member of the now famous Jolly Rogers, Post was believed to have been a gunner at the time he was lost in battle combat on Oct. 12. Joining the army in December 1940, Post went through technical school at Denver, Colo., and went on to Hawaii, where he was stationed when the Japs bombed Pearl Harbor. He was cited for bravery while stationed there. Post, 49, 712 South Homer Road, Homer Township, died this morning at the Midland Hospital Center. He was born in Midland Aug. 4, 1925 and attended the Midland schools. Mr. Post served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the European Theater. He married the former Alice Dorr Nov. 5, 1946 in Midland. He worked at Dow Chemical Company as an operator in the Bromine Department for the past 26 years. Survivors include his wife, Alice, four sons, Darrel, Charles, and James, of Midland, and Daniel, of Portland, Ore.; three daughters, Mrs. William (Louise) Shannon of Sanford; Mrs. James (Kathleen) Urbanaeicz of Midland; Lola, at home; one brother, Ralph, of Detroit; one sister Mrs. Marie Hayes, of Gladwin; seven grandchildren and his mother, Mrs. Henry (Beatrice) Post, of Midland. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday from the Ware-Smith-Funeral Home, with the Rev. Carl E. Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Homer Cemetery.
