* John's middle name has also be seen spelled Irvan or Isham. It is said that at some point in his life John had traveled to Arkansas. He was possibly buried in St. Louis, MO, He had a dark complexion, possibly due to Indian blood (maybe Blackfoot or Chipewa).

* Sarah has also be seen spelled Sara. One family story is that Sarah's mother or father was married to an Indian chief, probably Blackfoot or Cherokee. This Indian marriage was supposed to have taken place somewhere in Missouri. There is another story about Sarah making a trek in a covered wagon from the Missouri area to Illinois. It is said that her daughters (Amy, Dorothy, and Hazel) were with her on this journey. This story is thought to be true since it was told many times by Sarah's daughter, Amy. Also Sarah spent some summers at the residence of her daughter, Minerva, in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois.
