Charles Brown (son of Russell Brown and unknown (Brown)) was born 07 Jun 1818 in New Milford, Litchfield County, CT, and died 24 May 1891 in Veteran, Chemung County, NY. He married Roxanna Brisco on 12 Jun 1844, daughter of Nathan Brisco and Clarissa B. VanGorder.

Charles Brown

"In June, 1837, there came from New Milford, Litchfield County, CTto this section, Russell Brown with his wife and five children (threegirls and two boys) Chloe, Charles, Van Rensselaer, Sally, Samantha.The second child and oldest son Charles. He was born in New Milford,CT June 7th, 1818 and he died at home in the town of Veteran, ChemungCo., NY, May 24th, 1891age72 years, 11 months and 17 days. He issurvived by his wife, brother Van Rensselaer, and sister Chloe (nowMrs. Hine) of this town, the other sisters died several years ago.

"June 24th 1844 he was married to Roxana Brisco. Two children, JayH. and Charlotte F. were born to them. Charlotte died in infancy andJay died November 3rd, 1864 in Nashville, Tenn.

"The farm upon which he had always lived was a portion of the oldhomstead, purchased by the family 54 years ago, and upon which hesettled after his marriage. By hard, industrious labor, against greatdifficulties at times by good management and strict and uprightdealing with his fellow men, by continually saving a portion of hisearnings, he was able to leave a comfortable home and means sufficientfo the comfort of his wife in her declining years.
He was a life long Democrat, but not a politican, yet he had the honorof representing his town as Supervisor for one term, 1875-76.

"From infancy to old age he was always afflicted with some form ofdisease. He seldom ever saw a well day, yet he bore his ailmentspatiently until the end.

" During the evening of September 20, 1889, he and his wife wereattacked by robbers who gained admittance by rapping and were nearlykilled. His death was a direct result of this assault.

"His funeral was largely attended, the burial being from his homeWednesday morning, May 27th. The burial service of the EpiscopalChurch of which he was a communicant, was said at the house of Rev.Thomas Duck of St. Marks Church, Millport, NY and that of the MasonicFraternity was used the the grave. The interment was in the HighlandCemetery, Town of Montour."
