....was the only son having children, and hence is the ancestor ofall in this Beecher line. He was born in England, about 1623 and diedin 1690. His will was dated Sept. 28, 1689, and the Christian name ofhis wife was Mary. He was the owner of 7 tracts of land totally 61acres. In 1685 his name appears in the New Haven List ofProprietors, and is also on the list of freemen in NH July 1, 1644.

Isaac Beecher, b.1623, d.1690. Made Will Sept 26, 1689, in whichhe mentions sons John, Joseph, and Isaac, and bequeath to each certainparcels of land described, and to Samuel the sum of five pounds.Also, to Eleazur one acre of meadow at that place called Springfield.A four acres running across the road that leads to West Farms. Also,about five acres land in that field called Ford's Field. Also, makeand constitute my son Joseph Beecher my sole and only executor, andgive him the remainder of my whole estate, and require him to providefor my loving wife, Mary Beecher, during her life, well andcomfortably, and after her decease to get all the aforesaid legaciesperformed. Signed Nov 12, 1690, in Court. Inventory includeshouse-keeping goods, farming tools, cattle, 7 tracts of land,amounting to 61 acres. Apprized L126.

Kept in a locked cabinet in the Town Clerk's Office is a small oldbook which was used in the period between 1660 and 1700 formiscellaneous purposes. It seems to have been little used bygenealogists. A digest of a few of the records is given below. TheBeecher entry is of interest because it bears on the question ofwhether Isaac Beecher was actual son of the Widow Hannah Beecher,formerly Potter, or a step son...

Part 2, p.11: Isaac Beecher senior haveing for many yeares paststood in the quiett possession of divers parcells of land withoutclaime or prosecution doth now record them to himselfe, his heyres orassignes for ever.

- Alsoe a parcell of land graunted him against the end of a lott hebought of Eleazer Beecher neare Chesnutt hill...about 9 acres...
- Alsoe two acres one quarter twenty foure rod of land in the neckewhich at first belonged to Wm Potter, bounded westward by the millriver...which land of his on the South belonged at first to his motherBeecher
- Alsoe one parcell more in the necke which at first belonged to hisbro: Jno Potter (4 Dec. 1655)
-Nathanielle Potter son of Wm Potter appeared the 9th day of June1684: & acknowledged those lands mentioned before that did belong tohis sd father Wm Potter passed over to his unkle the sd IsaacBeecher...
