Obituary News clipping exerpt: Mark Almon Beecher, 78 years of age,died after being in failing health for the past 2 years. Hiscondition grew worse over the past few weeks until he had to beconfined to his bed. Heart trouble, combined with complications wasthe cause of death. He passed away Sunday morning, August 3, 1941 atthe family homestead. He married Loretta Terwilliger December 2, 1882and lived in Beaver Dams except for 10 yrs he lived in Schenectady.He was employed as a foreman for the General Electric Company. Mr.Beecher returned to Beaver Dams after the death of his mother to theBeecher homestead, the family home for 150 years.
From the Watkins Express, August 6, 1941: Mark Beecher, aged 78 yearsdied at his home in Beaver Dams, Sunday August 3, at 10:45a.m....Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday at two, theRev.John Starr, pastor of the Beaver Dams Methodist Churchofficiating.
Mark lived in the "little house" in Beaver Dams from the time he wasmarried until he moved to Schenectady, NY and lived for about 10 yearsnear his brother. Then he returned to Beaver Dams after his mother'sdeath to live in the "big" house.
Mother, Loretta, sold a lot about 50'wide and 200' deep next to the"big" house. Mark did not know it and started to dig a cellar thereafter her death, but would have had to purchase the land for $200, alot of money at the time. That was the end of the cellar, accordingto memory of Robert Beecher, grandson.
Mark was the Justice of the Peace, Town and County Superintendant,poor master. He was in business with Dennis Parmer who lived up onWest hill. They had a steam engine, sawed wood, and went from farm tofarm thrashing and baling hay. He also sold and installed lighteningrod systems. He worked for General Electric in Schenectady. Heworked for the town on the road when they had a regular crew. Died at home.
