| This is an ongoing labor of love, search for the decendents and ancestors of Joseph M. Gately. The journey has taken those involved in the search to Ireland, England, and cities in the United States. Many mysteries that up till now were considered "family lore" have now been researched and found to be true and included in this history or changed once the facts were discovered. The stories that still remain as folk lore are added in the notes of relatives who are connected to them. Very little was known about my family when I started this journey, since most of my relatives have passed on. With the help of my cousin Edward Gately,son of Robert, his wife Dee and imput from Evelyn Gately, the daughter of William Gately, my father's Uncle, we are piecing our family together like a giant puzzle. I would like to add the fact that Dee Gately has done most of the ground work and continues to search. I entered the quest in 1999 and together we will continue our search and leave our children with a family history they can reflect on and be proud of. |
