2. SAMUEL HOUSTON4 DUNCAN (JAMES3, GEORGE2, JEREMIAH1) was born Bet. 1828 - 1829 in Tennessee. He married LYDIA EMMA BEAN December 28, 1847 in Knox Co TN by John P Bearden, JP Knox Co, daughter of JOHN BEAN and SARAH CAMP. She was born December 08, 1827, and died March 1922.

Notes for SAMUEL HOUSTON DUNCAN:
Samuel was crippled and could not serve in the Civil War, and was shot by a Bean because of his loyalty to the Confederacy (family traditions, from Mary Sutton) Family was found in Knox Co, TN in 1850, 1860. Only Lydia and children were there in 1870 (Family tradition, from Mary Sutton)

From MBS- " my g-grandfather told of seeing his father shot from roof of his home where her was repairing chimney. There is some difference in this story ofhis death. The one in our family is that Sam was on the roof and someone hid in a grown up fence row and shot him, supposed to be a member of the bean family. N o proof. My g-aunt by marriage told me that her father in law told her of seeing his father shot. Mack duncan descendent of William S Duncan, said that Mrs Ballinger said that carpet baggers killed Sam."

3. WILLIAM S.4 DUNCAN (JAMES3, GEORGE2, JEREMIAH1) was born December 23, 1833, and died October 12, 1890 in Knox Co TN. He married SARAH S STINNETT November 02, 1871 in Knox Co TN, daughter of JOHN STINNETT and ELIZABETH. She was born 1849 in TN.

William S Duncan served in the Confederate Army, Co B 63rd(Fain's) Rgt TN Infantry.
Enlisted Knoxville TN 4/5/1862. Accidentally wounded 5/2/1864 and treated at Lynchburg Hospital. Was Pvt. 1862-2/1863. Made 3rd Sgt March 1863.
Captured 4/2/1865 at Hatcher's Run, Va. Rcd from Petersburg (City Point Va.) to Ft Delaware, Del.
Released 6/10/1865 From Ft Delaware.
Description: Ruddy complexion, Light hair: Blues Eyes, 6 ft tall
Officers listed: Wm Lyon, Capt Rise, Capt Anderson, Capt. RP McClain, A.E. Jackson, E.L.Hoard(Foarde), Capt. Wilson, Capt Dibsell.
This man was the son of James and Caroline Wright Duncan of Knox Co
