Notes for LILLIE MAY ATKINSON:
Lillie walked along the old Morman Trail and picked up things she could find, bits and pieces of anything, doll arms, cloth , just anything. She took them home and made little dolls out of them , creating parts for them and carefully matching materials and print patterns and sewing clothes. Before long she had created a roomful.
I am not sure how many there are but I would guess 30 or 40. She eventually sold the little dolls to pay her church debt and the little dolls were donated to the Morman Church in Independance, Missouri by the person who purchased them. I do not know the name of the person. I went there to see if I could see the dolls in June, 2000, but they are not there and no one seems to know about them. They have 3 doll collections, but none seem to fit the description I have been given from Tom Atkinson and they are not in Independance but in Salt Lake City now.
I went to Salt Lake City and found a museum that has doll collections. It was not opened the day I was there, but will go back someday and look thru it to see if it is there. It is called Pioneer Memorial Museum, 300 North Main Street , Salt Lake City, Utah 84103. Phone is 1-801- 538-1050
The Cameron Branch of Far West, Missouri #150, paper file, records the marriage of Albert Whiteaker and Lillie M. Atkinson on Feb. 10, 1909 in Cameron, Clinton County, Missouri by Brother Samuel Simmons...roll #176 Mo-04810 Sno-Sty, also I have noted Kingston #439.
