Notes for J
OHN CASHATT:
John could be the grandson of Andre Cochet ( if it is proven that Andre is the grandfather of John) who came to Virginia on the ship Mary and Ann, August 12, 1700 from London to Virginia to the town of James City or James Town. It was a ship with French Huguenot refugees on board. It looks like, on the ship landing list, that the departure date was July 31, 1700, about a 12 day voyage. Source of this information is the ships passenger list at rootsweb.com.
I see Cashatt spelled many different ways, Kashat, Cashet, Cashat, Coshatt, Cushatt, and even Cashell.

Found a statement in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio History Vo. 2 in a story about John Cashatt born Feb. 20, 1846 that says this John, his great grandfather, was a native of France, and coming to America in the eighteenth century, settled in Virginia, where the family was identified with agricultural interests.
