Notes for CUTLER JAMES WHITE: Cutler was reared in Vermont and attended Hamilton College in New York to become a teacher. He moved to New Bern, NC to teach school where he met Anna Chestnut. Anna's mother was an "Austin" of the Austins who settled Texas.Cutler later immigrated to Iowa to search his fortune in the west. He bought 640 acres along the Cedar River where he built a log cabin. Later, Cutler sold the farm and moved into the city of Waterloo where he eventually was elected the first clerk of the district court of Allamakee Co. She was born January 21, 1857 in Rensselaer, Ralls Co., MO., and died September 23, 1940 in Independence, Mo.. Notes for ALSON ALEXANDER WHITE: Alson was a native of Iowa. His birthplace was an old log house which stood on his father's farm near Waterloo, Iowa. Alson moved to Hannibal, Mo. where he worked for a lumber company that eventually became the Badger Lumber Company. The company established its headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. Alson moved his family there and became the treasurer and a major stockholder. He held that position until his death. He was also the Vice-President of the Builders & Traders Exchange located in Kansas City, Mo. He also held a number of other civic positions in his industry and community. Alson was a thirty-third degree Mason, having traveled to Scotland to receive this honor, and a Knight Templar, being a member of Palestine Commandery, No. 17, in Independence, Mo. In 1901 he was the Grand Commandery of Missouri for the Knights Templar. When he died, the Kansas City Council passed a resolution in remembrance of Alson who was a council member. His pallbearers were Sir Knights L.L. Seibel, L.P. Oliver, J.W. Sanborn, H.H. Waite, M.J. Price, G.C. Stewart, R.E. Bainbridge, and W.C. Dunn.
