Descendants of John Kirk Generation No. 1 1. JOHN1 KIRK was born Bet. 1804 - 1820 in Ireland, and died in Ireland. He married SARAH (KIRK) in Ireland. She was born Bet. 1804 - 1820 in Ireland, and died in Ireland. Notes for JOHN KIRK: John and Sarah are speculation. I found a Patrick Kirk, b. 1838, in Ireland with John and Sarah as parents in the LDS IGI records. No proof this is the same Patrick. Children of JOHN KIRK and SARAH (KIRK) are: 2. i. PATRICK J.2 KIRK,SR., b. 1838, County Cork, Ireland; d. June 03, 1928, St. Louis, MO. 3. ii. BRIDGET KIRK, b. 1844; d. Bef. March 27, 1917, St. Louis, Mo.. Generation No. 2 2. PATRICK J.2 KIRK,SR. (JOHN1) was born 1838 in County Cork, Ireland, and died June 03, 1928 in St. Louis, MO. He married JULIA BRADY 1868 in County Cork, Ireland. She was born 1850 in County Cork, Ireland, and died December 06, 1893 in St. Louis, MO. Notes for PATRICK J. KIRK,SR.: Looking at the census records and birth records, we know that Patrick married Julia in Ireland and came over from Ireland to St. Louis with 6 children. We find their immigration records as having arrived June 15, 1883 in New York City on the ship the "Celtic" which departed from Liverpool. They traveled in steerage. The children and ages were: Thomas - 13, Patrick - 11, John - 6, Mary - 5, Joseph - 4, and Margaret - 11 months. He was definitely the head of the Kirk Clan in St. Louis and was usually only referred to as "Himself". "Himself" lived at 5958 Cote Brilliante. The house is no longer there. This was the central Kirk household. In the 1894 city directory, Patrick is listed as a laborer and his son, Patrick who is living with them, is listed as a conductor. They lived at 1720 N. Taylor. By 1897 the family had moved to their permanent location of 5958 Cote Brilliante and Patrick was listed as a porter. Living with him was Patrick Jr. (policeman), Thomas P. (clerk at the Tennent Shoe Company), and John J. Kirk (also a clerk at the shoe company). This same group was living on Cote Brilliante on 1901. More About PATRICK J. KIRK,SR.: Burial: Calvary Cemetary, St. Louis, Mo. Notes for JULIA BRADY: Julia's real name may have been Judith as this is shown on her son, Joseph's, death certificate. More About JULIA BRADY: Burial: Calvary Cemetary, St. Louis, Mo. Children of PATRICK KIRK and JULIA BRADY are: 4. i. THOMAS PETER3 KIRK, SR., b. February 1870, County Cork, Ireland; d. December 25, 1924, St. Louis, Missouri. ii. PATRICK J. KIRK,JR., b. June 1872, County Cork, Ireland; d. April 03, 1934, St. Louis, MO. Notes for PATRICK J. KIRK,JR.: Patrick "Paddy" Kirk was a Captain on the St. Louis Metropolitan Police force, Third District. Patrick never married. He shows in the 1900 St. Louis census as living with his father at age 30. He shows in the 1910 St. Louis census as living with Michel McManamee who later married Paddy's sister Mary Jane. When Paddy died, it was one of the biggest St. Louis funeral processions and was lead by the then mayor of St. Louis. There is a very large article about Paddy in the 1938 St. Louis Post Dispatch. 5. iii. MARY JANE AGNES KIRK, b. October 1876, County Cork, Ireland; d. August 04, 1930, St. Louis, Mo.. 6. iv. JOHN J. She married MICHIAL COAKLEY Abt. 1863 in St. Louis, MO. He was born 1845 in Nova Scotia. Notes for BRIDGET KIRK: Speculation from burial records. Notes for MICHIAL COAKLEY: This is a little speculative. There is a Bridget Coakley buried in the Kirk plot in St. Louis. I found these Coakleys in the 1880 census and there were no others in St. Louis at the time. Children of BRIDGET KIRK and MICHIAL COAKLEY are: i. JOHN3 COAKLEY, b. 1876, St. Louis, Mo. ii. MICHIAL COAKLEY, b. 1878, St. Louis, Mo. Generation No. 3 4. THOMAS PETER3 KIRK, SR. (PATRICK J.2, JOHN1) was born February 1870 in County Cork, Ireland, and died December 25, 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri. He married (1) ELEANOR M. T. DORAN Abt. 1905 in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of JAMES DORAN and MARY (DORAN). She was born June 1870 in Nokomis, Montgomery Co., Illinois, and died May 01, 1913 in St. Louis, Missouri. He married (2) MARGARET O'CONNELL Abt. 1924 in St. Louis, Missouri, daughter of ? O'CONNELL and CATHERINE DONNELLY. She was born 1885 in Brurel, County Cork, Ireland, and died December 25, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri. Notes for THOMAS PETER KIRK, SR.: In the 1897 St. Louis city directory, Thomas is living with his father and is listed as a porter. Thomas Kirk became ill, suspected to be from diabetes, and had a leg amputated. This was after Eleanor Dorn (his first wife) died. He was trying to hold the family together. Because of the leg, he had to enroll all three girls in a boarding school run by nuns. The school was believed to have been the Loretta Academy in Florrisant Missouri. He kept Tom, the son, at home and they later moved in with Thomas' brother-in-law, Michael McManamee who was living in the Kirk family home on Cote Brilliant in St. Louis. His brother, Paddy (Patrick), moved in to help. Paddy was a policeman. Thomas died rather young at about 39 years after marrying a second time to Margaret O'Connell, who was loved by all. Tom died of a heart attack on his way to the family Christmas celebration. Buried along with the Dorn's and Kirk's is a Mary Burns who was taken in by Margaret O'Connell out of pity. More About THOMAS PETER KIRK, SR.: Burial: December 29, 1924, Calvery Cem. Sec 21, Lot 892, St. Louis Notes for ELEANOR M. T. DORAN: Eleanor died young (42) of cancer. She was only married to Thomas about ten years before her death. From her pictures, she was a very beautiful lady. Eleanor is very interesting. In her will and in most family documents her last name is "Dorn". Since Dorn is German and her daughter has the middle name "Doran", I have suspected that her last name was spelled different than is shown in family documents. This is the spelling shown on her death and in her will. However, in her obituary her name is spelled "Doran" which is Irish. Finally, by searching the city directories, I found an Ellen Doran in the 1897 St. Louis directory at 4229A Lucky Ave living with a James Doran. In researching the 1900 census, I find a James and Mary Doran with a daughter, Ellen, living with them at the same address. In the 1905 directory, I find Thomas Kirk living at this address. I think this concludes that her last name was really Doran and not Dorn. I am not sure why we have this discrepancy. Also, she signed her will with the "M.T." middle initials. I have yet to figure out what this means. Eleanor is listed as 33 in the 1910 census which would have made her born around 1877. The 1900 census lists her as 29 which would have made her born around 1881. She is listed as Ellen in the St. Louis 1880 census. More About ELEANOR M. T. DORAN: Burial: May 02, 1913, Calvery Cem. Sec 21, Lot 892, St. Louis Probate: May 05, 1913, #42046 St. Louis City Circuit Court Notes for MARGARET O'CONNELL: Margaret O'Connell was known as "Nana". She married Thomas Kirk after Patrick Kissane died. Thomas Kirk died several years after they married. Margaret arrived in New York's Ellis Island on 6/18/1903 on the "Majestic". Child of THOMAS KIRK and MARGARET O'CONNELL is: vi. MARY4 BURNS, b. 1879, Kentucky; d. Bef. July 05, 1923, St. Louis, Missouri; Foster child. Notes for MARY BURNS: We have no idea where Mary Burns came from. Margaret took her in "out of pity, poor old soul" but no one seems to know where she came from. We find Mary living with Patrick Kissane and Margaret in the 1920 census. She is buried along with Eleanor Kirk and Thomas Kirk at Calvery cemetery in St. Louis. There is no grave marker for her. More About MARY BURNS: Burial: Calvary Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo. 5. MARY JANE AGNES3 KIRK (PATRICK J.2, JOHN1) was born October 1876 in County Cork, Ireland, and died August 04, 1930 in St. Louis, Mo.. She married MICHEL J. MCMANAMEE April 30, 1906 in St. Louis, Missouri, son of JOHN MCMANAMEE and MARY (MCMANAMEE). He was born 1875 in St. Louis, Missouri, and died Aft. 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri. Notes for MARY JANE AGNES KIRK: Mary's husband, Michel, was a roommate with two of her brothers, which is how they met. Notes for MICHEL J. MCMANAMEE: Michael is found in the 1907 St. Louis directory as living with the Kirk's on Cote Brilliante and listed as a contractor. We find Michel in the 1910 St. Louis census but neither Michel nor Mary in the 1920 census. "Mike" was a bricklayer and later a brick contractor. Children of MARY KIRK and MICHEL MCMANAMEE are: 14. i. JOSEPH A.4 MCMANAMEE, b. February 21, 1908, St. Louis, Mo.; d. October 10, 1991, Florissant, Mo.. ii. MARY M. MCMANAMEE, b. Notes for JOHN J. KIRK: In the 1894 city directory, we have John living with his father and brother, Patrick and he is listed as a carpenter at 1720 N. Taylor. The 1901 city directory lists John J. Kirk (clerk) and his brother Patrick Kirk (laborer) living together. In 1907, John is living at 1428 Hill's Terrace and is a clerk. 1910 St. Louis City Census shows John J. Kirk, age 32, living with Joseph Broderick and lists him as a son-in-law. According to family rumor, John had a falling out with his father and left and was never again heard from. I find this interesting since I find him in St. Louis for quite a while. Child of JOHN KIRK and MANNIE BRODERICK is: i. JULIA M.4 KIRK, b. 1907, St. Louis, Mo.. 7. JOSEPH JEREMIAH3 KIRK (PATRICK J.2, JOHN1) was born August 11, 1878 in Drumcah, County Louth, Ireland, and died Aft. 1944 in St. Louis, Mo.. He married AGNES B. Notes for JOSEPH JEREMIAH KIRK: Joseph Kirk shows up in the 1900 St. Louis census as living with his father at age 20. He shows up in the 1910 St. Louis census as living with Peter Dekeney. Joseph was a policeman for St. Louis but was eventually kicked off the force due to his drinking problem. He later owned a small bar in St. Louis. Joseph's drinking problem eventually ruined his marriage. Children of JOSEPH KIRK and AGNES DELANEY are: i. JOSEPH4 KIRK, b. August 20, 1910, St. Louis, Mo.; d.
