Notes for FREDERICK "FRITZ" SEEMATTER: The 1900 Reynolds County Webb Township census shows "Fritz" or Frederick Seematter and family came to the United States from Saxeton, Switzerland in 1895. Fritz married Susan in Switzerland and they brought four of his children, Elizabeth, Fred, Adolph, and Charles along with two of Susan's children from her previous marriage to Gottlieb Zingrich; Joseph and John Zingrich. They arrived through immigration in New York arriving on the ship Chainsague out of Harve, France. They arrived on or about Oct. 9, 1895.. Fritz and Susan became US citizens May 29, 1900 in Centerville, Mo in the circuit court of Reynolds County, Mo. While in Switzerland, the Seematters attended the protestant church in Wilderswil in the valley. Some of the Seematters are buried in the cemetery connected to this church. Frtiz and his sons owned and operated several farms in the Black River bottoms area. Frtiz and Susan are buried in the Seematter Cemetery located on the Charles Seematter farm. Also buried there is Charles, Nettie, Fritz's daughter Elizabeth and he husband Joe Ross. |

Notes for SUSSANA AMACHER: Susan first married Gottlieb Zingrich. She later married Fritz Seematter. Fritz and Susan never had any children of their own. Article on Susan's death from the Wayne County Journal Banner: "Feb. 4, 1932 Mrs Susan Seematter Summoned By Death Mrs. Susan Seematter died Tuesday, January 26, at her home in the Pleasant Spring community near Riverside, Reynolds County, at the ripe old age of 92 years 10 months and 1 day, death being due to infirmities of advanced years. Funeral services were held at the Seematter Cemetery in Pleasant Spring community Wednesday afternoon by Rev. J.B. Sheets, pastor of Piedmont Baptist Church after which the remains were laid to rest. Mrs. Seematter was born in Switzerland March 25, 1839, and at age 18 was united in marriage to Gottlieb Zingrich. To this union, seven children were born, six of whom survive as follows: Gottlieb, Fred, Christ, and Susan who live in Switzerland, and John Zingrich of Piedmont and Joseph of St. Louis. Her first husband died in 1874 and she was married to Fritz Seematter in Switzerland in 1880. No children were born of this marriage, but three stepsons - Fred, Adolph, and Charles Seematter also survive together with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Seematter came to America in 1890 and settled in Reynolds County were she remained until her demise. She united with the Presbyterian church in Switzerland at age 15 and remained a devote Christian throughout her long and useful life. Sympathy is extended to the berieved relatives." |
