My parents lived in Shannon, Georgia at the time and they both worked at the Brighton Mills in Shannon. We lived in Shannon until I was around 5 years old and then we moved to Marietta to be be close to Lockheed, my father's new work place. Our house was one of the first in the neighborhood. The land was rich with red clay and I can remember the many struggles we had trying to get grass to grow as well as the spankings I got for gettting my shoes covered in that red clay. I can remember that the knees of my pants and the elbows of my shirts did not escape that red clay either. I attended Labelle Elementery School when I became old enough and graduated from there to Osborne Junior High School (this was a senior high until the new high school was built on Favor Rd, in Marietta). My grades were good in elementery school until I discovered sports and girls and then my grades suffered greatly. When I went to Junior High I swore off girls and concentrated on school work and got my grades back up to excellant. My grades took another nose dive in High school and did not recover until I reached college. I attended Osbone Senior High after the Junior high. It was while attending Labelle that I became interested in sports. I played baseball and basketball. When I graduated to the Junior High I also became involved (talked into it due to the notice of the football coaches with my speed and size). When I went on to Osborne Senior the football coaches attempted to get me to play but I didn't have any desire to and stuck with baseball (my first love) and basketball. I became a good athlete in High School playing in the State basketball championships in my softmore year. I was very proud to be able to play basketball with my brother and his friends on such an excellant team. I was also rewarded in baseball having my picture on the front page of the Marietta Dailey Journal and crowed the pitching and batting champ the three years I played there. I broke down my senior year and played football and enjoyed playing but was disappointed with the coaches favoratizm with his past star players in giving out emblems for extra effort during the games. At any rate, I was offered three football schlorships and one partial baseball schlorship. I was asked to come play with the Kansas City "Jayhawkers", "The Citadel", and Georgia Tech. I chose to go with my first sport love, baseball and attended Southern Tech that following fall after graduation from high school. My grades sufferd my first quarter at Southern Tech and then I buckled down and began doing well. I even managed to exempt my electrical physics final and my nuclear physics final. I did very well that first year in basball becoming the Most Valuable Player and having the highest batting average. Our team won third place in the State of Georgia in our conference that year. The following year I still had the highest batting average but not enough times at bat to claim the title. After that year I decided to really buckle down and give up baseball. I got married to my first wife, Sarah Rebecca Woddall, and began working part time for Recco Inc., inside the Treasue Island store on Old 41 (Cobb Parkway now) and Wendy Hill Rd. It was while I was working here that the Braves Baseball organization came to the store and asked my cousin to talk to me about playing ball for the Braves. He called mother and asked if he should let the man talk to me (I had already informed my cousin, John Duke of how I was disgusted with the politics of baseball). Mother told him to tell them to leave me alone. I suppose my cousin thought mother would tell me of their visit and mother thoght my cousin would, but neither did until I talked o mother recently and it came out about the Braves. I worked for Recco a while longer. My cousin left Recco and I became manager of the department. I left Recco and went to work with CMC Stereo for the next 10 years. Workign there and some other poor choices on my part, broke up my first marriege and I went into a tailspin for several years. I finally became disgusted with CMC and decided to go back into the electrical business. I went to work for a commerical electrical contracting firm, Belco Electric. It was while working for Belco that I became involved with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons). I met my second wife, Glenda Virginia Cassele, through chuch activities. I became tied of the long hours and low pay at Belco and went to work for a short time with another industrial electrical contractor, Vickers. I worked for them a short time until they layed me off. I was unemployed for a short time and then found work with North Fulton Electric. At North Fulton I learn to do remodeling work. I worked with them for some time until I became sick of remodeling work and the long drive through Atlanta from Riverdale. I found work as an electrical troubleshooter for Rose Electric informing them that I would be preparing my own electrical contracting business as soon as I aquired enough clients. I put away some money and built up my clients and finaly one day I was ready to start a company of my own. I left Rose Electric and started Bently Electric. Around this time my son, Daniel, was born and he was an added joy to my life. He had some problems with his ears when he ws young but some tubes were placed in his ears to drain infection and he got much better. Daniel was a very loveing, sweet child as a baby and I loved playing with him and reading to him. Several years went by and I could see that Glenda and I were falling out of love so one day I decided to give Glenda a divorce and I packed up some belongings and moved to Atlanta to live in one side of a duplex the owner let me have very cheaply. That owner and I became good friends and I finally married her March 24, 1995. Her name is Elzabeth (Beth) Ann Geiger. My hobbies are collecting video movies, music, and Coca Cola memorabilia as well as computers and reading. |
