Thanks for the tip. It is worth checking out. A cousin of mine has info that suggests that Benjamin Ballard was married to a Catherine Bentley. Benjamin's father was Humphrey Ballard and Catherine's father was William Bentley. I am not sure if there are other connections with your Ballards.

There is a Benjamin BALLARD listed as being born 27 Feb 1743 in Onslow County, North Carolina. This looks like possibly a brother of Humphrey and would make sense; Humphrey named a son Benjamin. (LDS, Family Search, IGI, V4.02). There is a branch of the Bentley Family that also comes from Onslow County, North Carolina and moved to Wilkes County (William BENTLEY, III, son of William BENTLEY, II that left the will in Wilkes County probated in 1792)

Your Benjamin Ballard may be the son of John Ballard and Mary Continent, and brother to my ancestor Joshua Ballard. If so, Benjamin was born 1742/43 in Virginia and married Katherine Hammond. John and Mary were originally from VA, but lived in Chowan and Onslow Co., NC for a time. They had eight known children. Joshua (B 1745) and his brother Benjamin, migrated to Wilkes Co., GA, and both ended up in Morgan Co., GA. Some researchers believe this line to be descended from Col. Thomas Ballard of VA, member of the House of Burgesses. I show this Benjamin died in Morgan Co., GA in 1832.
