Y-Chromosome DNA testing has now proved that we are descendants of Matthew Strickland Sr., b.1626,
Westmoreland County England; m. Elizabeth Loreen Golsom; d. 05 May 1696, Isle of Wight County,VA. I had always suspected so but thanks to science we now have proof. Now if we can just find the four to eight generations in between him and Alexander.

Lewallen Decatur Strickland's death certificate states that Alexander was born in South Carolina and Mary Fowler was born in Georgia. Gay Strickland gave the information for the death certificate.

I am looking for Alexander Strickland. I have very little documented info on him. According to rumors he was born about 1791 in VA and died in Gilmer Co, GA, in 1890 and is buried at Cartecay Cemetery in an unmarked grave. He reported had 7 or 8 sons. ANY information will be appreciated.

John STRICKLAND married Margaret LAND 11/10/1844 in Murray CO GA. Moved to Marshall CO AL by 1850 and Washington CO ARK in 1854. Said to have been a scout on the Trail of Tears. Not proven. Brothers William STRICKLAND and Alexander STRICKLAND also married 1840's in Murray CO. John b. @ 1822 S.C. died 1861-62 Ft. Smith Ark. Parents born in S.C. @ 1800. Father possibly William Henry STRICKLAND. parents probably died before 1850 census. Not in 1840 Murray CO Census.

Joseph LAND and family were in the 1840 Murray County Census. He was born 1799 in Pendleton Dist, S.C. and died 1875 in Comanche County TX. Children - Nancy m. Jesse Jones, Margaret m. John Strickland, Joseph Alexander - a frontier minister in OK.

This person is buried in the Cartecay United Methodist Church Cemetery and has a six sided flat stone marking the grave site with just the name and dates on it. Curious as to who this person was and was he a member of the church. The church was founded in 1834. Haven't been able to find out much about this man. I am not kin to him, but a member of the old church committee that cares for the cemetery and old structure that is on the National Reg. Leslie Thomas
