Hello again from Minnesota. It's been a very busy and exciting year since our "Christof Friedrich Banzhaf 1st Descendant's Reunion" in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. We've finally put the wraps on the first reunion with the mailing this spring of the "Memories" book to all the attendees. Efforts to bring together a second reunion in 2003 here in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis & St. Paul) in Minnesota are well underway. Please see Mark Benshoof's related home page for more and on-going information about it. Another major milestone is the mailing started this past week of the first family wide release of the genealogy. In future up-dates where Mark's home-page will concentrate on the 2003 reunion, mine will be the primary home-page for the family genealogy. Following is an abridged copy of the release letter which explain all the particulars. Please contact me with any new data for our records, if any questions, or if interested in obtaining a copy or copies of the "BANZHAF 10.0" diskette: ---------------------------------------- "We on the Genealogy Committee have finally brought the Banzhaf family record to a level we feel is ready for release to the family. We have named it: “BANZHAF 10.0”. This release contains 6,002 individuals dating back to 1320 in Ulm, Germany, and it contains 14,199 Text records. This release was organized on Broderbund “Family Tree Maker” s/w version 7.5 and is compatible with any “Family Tree Maker” s/w version at that level or higher. The cost for a diskette copy of this record is $3.00. Any money received that exceeds actual costs will go to the 2003 Reunion Fund. Please send your check to the author listed at the end of this letter. As we promised at the reunion in Johnstown last year, this is a combination of efforts by many people over many years up to and including all the family information we received during and after the reunion. - This version reflects input, checking and double checking efforts by James D. Benshoof, Mark A, Benshoof and the author who make up the Genealogy Committee for the descendants of Christof Friedrich Banzhaf. Also considerable information has been added and verified from the extensive genealogy records of Rita Seeley. Our deepest thanks to all in the family who have contributed so much information to help us bring the family records to their current level. This will always, I hope, be a work in progress. I would expect a new release approximately once a year. First off our family is far from stagnant and I’m sure our family tree will continue to expand significantly far into the future. Secondly, we on the current committee, with the help of the family and on-going research will continue to expand, verify and solidify the family history. As an example of this, please note the change of Christof’s middle name from “Frederich” to “Friedrich”. This has been verified since the reunion by a copy of Dr. Carl Banzhaf’s 1935 “History of the Banzhafs” which I obtained from Wilhelm Banzhaf. Wilhelm had one of the few remaining original copies of the book and was kind enough, through his contacts in the publishing world, to have a few beautiful hard copy reproductions made. As time and translating permits, more of Dr. Carl’s information will be reflected in later versions of our genealogy releases. We on the committee hope that you and your families have many hours of enjoyment and education examining the family history. Regards, - Barton A. Benshoof |
