Notes for Joseph Benson: There have been many Family stories handed down about Joe Benson, the older brother of George W. Benson. I don't know how many were true or how much they were embroidered for effect. These stories have him branded as a rascal. Some stories have said he was killed on a railroad track and his watch was found on the front of the train (the cowcatcher). One story is that Joe liked to pull the cork (drink) and was found laying along the railroad track with his banjo beside him. The story goes that the banjo has been in the possession of several different family members over the last fifty years. It is believed that Robert Andrew Benson who is the grand nephew of Joe now has the banjo in his possession... Contributed by Sue Benson Wallis, 2003.
Joe Benson's watch has been found to be in the possession of his Grandniece Vada Ruth Johnson Davis as of this date. 8/1/03
