Find Family

* James A. & Sandra J. Brown Bentley, Our Ancestry*

Updated May 20, 2009

These are the generations that form our family. I hope that what I have found and provided here may be of use. If any of the sources that I have used contain innacuracies, please feel free to let me know. One of the most difficult obsticles has been in the variations of the spellings in each of the families. For example, in the Yeates family, I have found records of known ancestors with the spelling Yeates, Yates, Yeats, and Yeatts.

Because this has gotten so big, and because I am starting to investigate Sandra's family I will soon be adding information about her family in the book section.

The sources for this information are many. This began with the work of Louise Bentley Smith. Her work on the Bentley family ignited my interest and passion. My special thanks to Sue Stephenson and Donna Woods. Without their assistance I would know nothing about the Woods, Mcleod, Robinson, Pugh, Chapman, and Ivy families. The staffs at the County Clerk's offices in Angelina County,Texas and the Jasper County,Texas have been especially patient and helpful. The Ora McMullen resource room at the Kurth Memorial Library, Lufkin Texas, and the East Texas Historical Collection at Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, Texas have been especially useful and helpful. The access to the Texshare Database with its access to the US Census, through the Nacogdoches Public Library has been an inexhaustable source. Also, to the creators of the internet. This amazing and useful tool has put me in touch with family members scattered all over the country, people I would never have otherwise found.

A special note. If you are slightly confused by the existance of two seemingly identical homepages created by me, so am I. I recently purchased a new computer. This electronic marvel runs with Windows XP. XP would not run the FTM program that I owned. I had to purchase an updated version. Guess what? Once I upgraded, I couldn't publish to my old family tree site. So thus I had to create this one so that I could keep updating the tidbits I have run across on our family.

I have included a link to Allan Bentley's family history at Rootsweb. This site is as about as authoritative a source as I have found for the family's history.
