1. JOSHUA (I)¹ BENNET was born Abt. 1700 in Possibly Connecticut, and died Abt. 1789 in Plymouth TWP, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania.

According to a list of settlers prepared by Zebulon Butler, Lazarus Stewart and John Smith of the Committee of Settlers for the Susquehanna Company, Joshua Bennet arrived on the Susquehanna River on October 23, 1771. See "A History of Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania" by Oscar Harvey, Volume II; Wilkes-Barre; 1909. The original list is in the collection of the Wyoming Historical and Genealogical Society.

From "Proceedings and Collections of The Wyoming Historical and Genealogical Society", Vol. 209-218, Tax lists for Plymouths District, Westmoreland County, Colony of Connecticut, August, 1776, listed are: Joshua Bennet, Samuel Ramsom, Hezekiah Roberts.

Luzerne County, PA, Book I, 1788-1875: The Estate of Joshua Bennett, Administrator: Joshua Bennett, and Sureties of Geor P. Ransom and Elisha Bennett, date of Bond January 9, 1790.

Aug. 30, 1791, Luzerne County Orphan's Court (p. 27) "The Petition of HEZEKIAH ROBERTS, assignee of Elisha Bennet and others heirs of JOSHUA BENNET, deceased, was read, praying for a division of the real estate of said deceased, which was postponed until the next Orphan's Court."

George P. Ransom and Hezekiah Roberts are neighbors to Joshua (II) in the 1800 U. S. Census.

	iv.	ELISHA BENNET, b. Bet. 1754 - 1774; d. Genoa, Delaware County, Ohio.

Notes for ELISHA BENNET:
The 1800 U. S. Census of Newport TWP, Luzerne County, PA (File #560, Reel #M32-39, p. 178A, line #3, taken April 10, 1800) shows: "Elisha Bennet", with two males aged less than 10 years, one male aged 10-16 years, one male (himself) aged 26-45 years, three females aged less than 10 years, and one female aged 26-45 years.

Elisha was over 21 years of age in the 1811 Census.

Elisha moved to Delaware County, Ohio about 1800 and named the town of Genoa there. Hezekiah Roberts also moved to that area.

P. 607 "GENOA TOWNSHIP, named by Elisha Bennett from the town of Genoa, in Italy, is situated south of the township of Berkshire, in Range 17, and is known as Township 3." "Elisha Bennett, one of the earliest settlers, came here from Pennsylvania, by way of Harlem, as early as 1809. His glory lies in
the fact that when it was decided to organize and erect a separate township from Harlem, and the project was carried into execution he had the honor of naming the same. When he came to Genoa, he settled on land near the Maxwell Corners, and died there a number of years ago."
P. 605 "In the spring of that year (1810), Hezekiah Roberts came to Genoa, from Luzerne County, Penn., bought Latshaw out, and began planting corn in the bottom land that had been cleared.
