JOHN HOLLETT. Born in England.
The earliest Hollet recorded for this family line is "John Hollett" of Henstridge, Somerset County, England.
John's birth date is unknown, but believed to be in the early 1700's.
No information has been found about John's wife, or other family members.
John's son, also named "John", brought his family to Great Burin, Newfoundland.
Research in this family line has been very interesting for two special reasons. In all other family trees I have hit a dead end in the early 1800's, and have not been able to discover from where these families came, prior to their life in Newfoundland. Information for the "Hollett" family that I received has led me back to the early 1700's, as well as to a definite place in Somerset County, England.
As the data was received I was surprised to discover that both my mother, and my father, were descendants of the same line. Three children of Thomas Hollett and Martha Chant are my direct ancestors, Maria, Mary, and Philip.
English records show "Hallett" instead of "Hollett", even Thomas Hollett (3rd generation) and Martha Chant's marriage record shows "Hallett". All records in Newfoundland show "Hollett".
In my research I have found several other families of "Holletts" who came to Sound Island, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. I believe they may be related as they came from Dorset County, England.
Notes I have about the will of John's son, "James", seem to tie these families together.
Other records of Holletts have been found that have not yet found their place in our family tree.
