Notes for T
HOMAS FOOTE:

I've included both Thomas Foote and Hickman and the Thomas Foote and Hollett families to show the
possible connection, however I have no proof of a direct link between the two families.

Notes and comments originated from the research of Doug Hollett:
The earliest "Foote" recorded for this family line is Thomas Foote of Foote's Cove, Pardy's Island,
Newfoundland.
It has been said that Thomas came originally from Scotland, although no documentation has been
found.
Another source said they came from England. I searched the I.G.I. files for both places, and could find
no clues.
There are "Foote's" recorded in many counties in both Scotland and England.
Thomas Foote is an ancestor on my mother's side of the family.
I also discovered a William Foote who is an ancestor of my father.
Thomas and William were married to sisters, Maria and Mary Hollett.
Thomas married Maria on November 05,1838; and William married Mary on November 03,1842.
I suspect that Thomas and William may have been brothers, or at least cousins.
Foote's Cove where they lived was not a very big community.
I have received data from several correspondents about other Foote families in Burin in the late 1700's
and early 1800's. A link has not been confirmed with any of these, although I believe they may also be
related.
Thanks to Reta Atkinson of Guelph, Ontario; and Susan Buckley of Pepperill Mass. USA
I have added quite a bit to my own research into the Footes of Burin
Thomas and Maria lived and had their first six children in Foote's Cove, Pardy's Island, Newfoundland,
then in the early 1850's, he bought land at Stepaside, on Burin Island, called Hooper's Point.
This was changed to Foote's Point, and is still known locally by that name.
The last three children's births were then recorded as being from Stepaside.
Supreme Court Records showing the dispersment of Thomas' estate claimed by Maria, show the value
at Two Thousand and Six hundred dollars.
This was done on March 09,1880.

And also one third of any money I may be possessed of at my decease, and all my cattle, and one fourth of the household furniture.
