1. ELCANY1 BAILEY was born Abt. 1808 in NC, and died Abt. April 1855 in Wilson, NC. He married CHERRY Bef. 1839. She was born Abt. 1812 in NC, and died Bef. 1878.

LCANY BAILEY:
We first found Elkany Baily listed in Greene County, NC in 1840. He listed one son under 5, one daughter under 5 and he (20-29) and his wife (20-29). In 1850 he was listed with all family members names. Elcany/Elkany was 42 and a Laborer, Cherry was 38, Eason, 12, Cinda, 10, William H., 9, Mary 7, Theophilas F. 5, John T. 3, and Mary Jane 8/12. There was an inventory of his estate made on April 10, 1855 in Wilson County. John Wilkinson was the administrator of the estate. Mr. Wilkinson established to the best of his knowledge that Elcany's personal estate was worth about $27. Elcany possessed a tract of land of 250 acres that adjoined lands of: Simms, Harvey Speight, and John Bargum and others. The value was established at $200. The following was the inventory of his estate:

1 Jug, 1 barrel and contents, 1 box and contents, 1 pair cart wheelers, 2 Augurs, 1 frying pan, 1 interest in tar kil (?), 1 loom, 1 chest, 1 shot gun, 1 bed & st'd , 1 sofa stand, 1 spinning wheel, 1 water bucket, 1 lot crockery jar, 1 table and contents, 1 bible, 1 cradle, 1 lot chirs(?), 1 grindstone & 2 axes, 1 bed and st'd, 1 coffee pot, 1 pot, 1 basket contents, and 1 pot. It all totaled $26.76. The buyers were: Nathan Webb, Nathan Johnson, Daniel Rogers, Benjamin Moore, Widow, John T. Webb, Stephen Johnson, Mr. Brennen, Polly Jones, and William Rearons.

There was a Petition filed with the Wilson County court on July 7th 1873 asking that the land given to Elcany Bailey by Honor Wells (300 acres) be sold and divided between the heirs. This land was adjoined by the land of Richard Gay now owned by Washington Ward and others lying on the head of Goff swamp.

There was a sale of what land he had in Wilson county in 1878 to be divided between his surviving children.
