ASON JULIAN BAILEY:
Eason Julian Bailey was born June 9, 1873 somewhere in North Carolina. We think Hertford County, but we are not sure. He was born to E.E. Bailey and Susan A. Daughtrey. He had six full brothers and sisters and 3 half brothers and sister. It is believed that his mother died sometime after his brother Henry was born (1875) as his father was remarried by 1880 and then again in 1885. The first we found him on a census was at age 7 in Southampton Co., VA. He married Rosa Cornelius Atkins on January 16, 1896 at her fathers home - J.B. Atkins in Hertford Co., NC. Throughout the census, Eason listed himself as a farmer. In 1900 they were still living in Hertford Co., NC - Manny Neck township. In 1910 and 1920 they were living in Southampton Co., VA. Together they had 10 children (two died). Rosa died in 1931 and Eason lived at their home until the middle 1940's when he lived with his daughter - Nellie Overby in Drewryville, VA. According to his obituary he had lived there the past 11 years. He died in April 1953 after staying one month in a Williamsburg hospital.
