Notes: Letter from Elizabeth Edwards to Leah Klinefelter Typed as written, no year is written Envelope has Albion on it (city in Noble County Indiana) Because she writes of Mr. Klinefelter being sick, (he died in 1871) I believe the letter was written before 1871. I found a Christian Foster married to an Elizabeth Edwards early 1800s in Ohio (This possibly would be the folks the letter refers to) faller means father? Paw (pa) Indana Noble Co Jefersan to March the 4 Dear friend tis with the greatest pleasure that I take my pen in hand to inform you that we are all well at present wee have just got over the ager and more I received your letter and more that I thought that I was there amost I was sory to here that Mr. Klinfelter had bin sick so long and was not well yet tis hard in deed I have expierenced that since I have bin out her in the back woods tho we have plenty of every thing ecept religion is very scarce in this part of the world ther has bin a great deal of meeting all winter but they don't Seam to do much good Some have the preaching dos not seam to have any afect on the folks they do not have as good meeting as they joust have in aline they first time tat I went to meeting after wee came out here I sed I would not go to meeting any more but I have bin losts a times since and now I am getting yous to them some of them preach free salvation and after preaching they will call they members up in one corner and sing and prey to and far them selves and that is free salvation thn I will give up beat that is the methodice that do that the babtice and the lutherns and methodice is all that clases that there is here Mr Mickl Eleys faller have bin sick lots this fall and winter Miss Eley is very sick at this time she has had to sinking chills and they thant tha She wood have a nother one to day I have not herd whether she had one or not Aunt Beck walters is sick they say I for my part have not never bin to sea hur yet hur and ruth comes to seame afterher thatn they are execptable and you better think they ar as god as py to mee Uncle ???ks faller ar all well at present and aunt betsy Edwards respects and well wishes to you and uncle Christian Fosters folks ar well and uncle Cris is as rich as a Jew he has got so rich that he has far suck his religious duties and slid clear back in to the wide world he drinks and swares and and cuts a big swell you better think We have lots of snow here this winter there has bin about too months sleighing but the snow is going very fast to day and I am not sory far any part far our potatoes and turnips and beats wasburied a god peace from the house and it was not so much fun to get them to use/ in the snow wee are getting along lots better than wee was in ohio wee have a most three hundred achers of land and that all paid far and thare is twenty achers cleard where we live and paw has 8 hed of catle and to hed of horses and fifteen hed of hogs and wee killed six nice fat hogs besides and last fall I bought to nice heifers that will come in this spring and I bought ttnr geas and Mr. Rice gave mee too little pigs las fall and now they are great big hog, and I have served for the folks and bought my chickens I could make a fortune a sewing I get fifty sents for making a calico dress and from a dollar to a dollar and a half for a nice dress seventy five and a dollar for making a fine shirt pants from a dollar to a dollar and a half and to dollars William Gidner has bin out here far the past to months and he made his home her he had gon back new he said he was a going home past where you live if he dose he can tell you more in one hour thatn I can right in a week with this pen I do not expect that you can read it but if you cant I will tell you all I roat and more to whn I come to sea you so no more at present but I remain your affectionate friend from Elizabeth Edwards To Miss Leah Klinfelter give My respects and well wishes to Mr Klinfelter and all the rest Paw sinds respects and well wishes to you and Mr klinfelter right as soon as you can if you pleas exceuse my poor scribbling if you pleas
