Klinefelter Walters is age 29 Talks of Peter Klinefelter-could be Uncle Peter who ended up in Christian Cty Illinois Sarah was married (Elizabeths sister) age 22 John F had joined the army (Elizabeths brother) age 20 Moses Walters(not sure if brother or father) says James is well (Elizabeths brother)age 31 Aunt Betsey (Elizabeth WENTLING m. to Joseph Klinefelter) age Peter-on furlow Child of Joseph and Elizabeth, age 22 Samuel- on furlow, age ? Home June 19th 1864 Dear Parents. & sisters it is with pleasure I thake my pen in hand to communicate a few lines to you we have been looking very anxiously for a letter from you for some time but all in vain , so I finely concluded to write again we received a letter from Peter Klinefelter some time ago he stated that he had received a letter from Sarah and she was married & John F had joined the Army we received a letter from Moses Walters the other day he says James is well he seas him every day Moses reinlisted but James dident every thing is very peacable and quiet hear. Good very high calico 25 to 30 35 musline 40-50 cpffee 55-60 Suagar 25-30 every thing els in proportion Wheat spring 70 cts bushel fall 125 oats 40cts corn 40 cts their will be very little fall wheat harvested hear this season it was to dry last fall after sowing time but very little came up most of the farmers sowed spring wheat on the ground they sowed their fall wheat on, we have a very good growing season so far every thing looks fine. Walters has cut quite a large crop this year he runs two teams he has 25 acres of oats ten of barly ten of wheat and 45 acers of corn we have six head of horses four large one and two little colts 20 head of cattle. 4 large hogs I have about 100 young chickens and five gosling I had nine but the rest died We have had plenty of radishes onions & lettice & peas, but no potatoes yet the vines have been in bloom tow weeks so it wont be long until we have plenty we had potatoes this time last year I have tomatoes vines in bloom we have never had as backward cool a spring as this since we live hear until the last three days has been very warm I gefs (she means guess, fs is the way they spelled 2 ss) it will be warm enough now Walters has some of his corn plowed through three times that is over knee high the last ??? he is going through the second time now. He wants to go through it all once more. Before harvest and then lay it by, he lays hear on the Lounge asleep and the sweet roling of him & the girls are out in the yard playing Girls why do you not write to me sometimes now if you did not all live so close together I would write separate letters to you but as you do I think one letter will be just the same now write please do you do not know how much good it would do me to receive letters from you all Aunt and family are all well and getting along very well, the girls says I must send grand ma a peace of thair new dresses. Aunt Betsy made them a present of when the boys was at home on furlow, Samuel made them a present of nice rubber roach combs and Peter of little painted tins.
