Notes for Preserved Brayton: Resided in Swansea, RI From "History of Somerset, MA", p. 38: "In 1714, Preserved Brayton, first-comer of the family thenceforth to be identified with the Point and all the surrounding region, arrived from Newport and built a home the stone foundations of which are still to be seen a little way up the hill from the later Homestead. His wife was Content Coggeshall, grandaughter of John Coggeshall the partner of William Coddington who had led the Portsmouth group which had founded Newport and who had been the almost sucessful rival of Roger Williams for control of Rhode Island. By the end of the century they had fourteen descendants of the Brayton name living within the Purchase. "
