The Honorable John Otis was Representative of General Court for 20 years; Committee of Militia of the County for 18 years; Chief Justice of Court of Common Pleas for 13 years; and first Judge of Probate. In 1706 he was chosen one of His Majesty's Council and sat at that honorable board for 21 years. A gentleman of distinguished talents, of powerful wit, great affability, sagacity, prudence and piety, an assemblage of the virtues hard to be matched in these later days.
