I am researching the Berry family from Chesterfield District, South Carolina. Samuel Jarel Berry first appears in the 1820 Federal Census and there is strong evidence to suggest that he was the son of Andrew Berry of Marion District, South Carolina. He married Nancy Jane George and they had two daughters: May/Mary and Nancy Elizabeth and four sons: Clinton, Andrew Jackson, Thomas Meadows and George Washington. They also had an additonal son and daughter who apparently died young and their names are not known. Samuel moved his family from South Carolina sometime in the mid or late 1820's to Greene County, Alabama where they remained until their move to Sabine Parish, Louisiana in the mid 1840's. The family eventually settled in Natchitoches Parish near Rio Hondo which later became Marthaville, Louisiana. Any information on this family line would be greatly appreicated. I am also willing to share the information that I have.

G-Grandmother Alabama Catherine Berry (41 KB) At the time of her birth her father was serving with the Confederacy in Alabama. This, I assume is where her name derived. Grandmother Anna Mae Berry (31 KB) To her family she will all ways remain youthful and beautiful as in this photo. She died in 1930 from pneumonia. G-Grandfather William Isaac Berry (41 KB) Known to the family as Ike, he died at an early age. Grandfather William David Berry (48 KB) David with his children at his sister's place in Richey, Missouri in 1941. Like his father he died at an early age. G-G-Grandfather Andrew Jackson Berry (118 KB) Andrew is shown with his wife Dicy Ann and their children Lenious, Ike and Jack. Also included are Dicy's parents Enoch and Nacrisse Withers.
