| The focus of my research has been the ancestry of my maternal grandmother, Sadie Lenora Sheldon Nelson, who traces her roots to the early settlers of Massachusetts Bay Colony through the Sheldon, Searle and Clapp families, and to the founders of Connecticut through the Newton family. I am also researching the Berrie family, who came from Tayport, Fife, Scotland, as well as my maternal grandfather's family, which also came from Scotland. His grandparents, James Nelson and Mary Cannon, emigrated in 1848, but I don't know where they came from. His maternal great-grandparents, James Craig and Martha Shorthouse, came from Kinnoull, Perthshire. I'm trying to fill several gaps in my tree, and would appreciate hearing from anyone who has information on the parents of any of the following: Esther Riggs, born March 15, 1803 in Oxford, CT, married Jeremiah Newton of Woodbridge Ct, Jan. 21, 1823, in Orange, CT, died Oct. 13, 1866. UPDATE! New information from Oxford Past Genealogy Web site identifies Esther's parents as Ebenezer Anson Riggs and Sebra Holbrook. Amos Shevoy, who reportedly came to West Springfield, MA, from Fishkill, NY, around 1766 and was married to Elizabeth Van Horn of West Springfield. Their daughter, Eunice, married Asa Miller. Deborah Owen, married to Lemuel Searle of Springfield, MA. Possibly daughter of Asahel Owen and Deborah Drake of Windsor, CT. Nathan Nevers and his wife, Mary (possibly Hubbard), parents of Anna Nevers, married to Ebenezer Bliss of Springfield, MA |
