| Hi, folks! Welcome to our family tree site. There are lots of links below to the "good stuff", but first a brief introduction.... Where we are: With the help of MANY people, this tree includes much of what is known in the family already, BUT YOUR HELP IS NEEDED TO ADD, CORRECT, ETC. Also several people (including me) are doing research -- in our "spare" time -- to find immigration and census records and try to trace our ancestors back further to their hometowns before immigration to the US. These are summarized in the "Related Files" section below. I'd like to give a special thanks to Edward Berger, Joel Sartorius, Charles Lipson, Ken Berger, Judi Lipson Goldstein, Lois Goodman Ontell, Joan Goodman Churchill, Irving Kesser, Sarah Seidman, Judi Goldstein and Andy Adler for providing me with much of the information so far, and Luci Lipson Sunshine for the inspiration to get this started. Also Marjorie Short for much outside research and pointing me the right direction to start on this part. The information on this site includes my mother's family(1) and my father's family (2). Here's a brief roadmap: (1) The family of my mother, Elena (Enie) Lipson Berger, of blessed memory ---- Enie's mother Sara was a "Boston Berger", and other prominent names in this family are Wolfson, Goodman, Zak/Sack, and Zakleinski. This family immigrated from Eastern Europe in the late 1800's. ---- Enie's father Edward was a Lipson, also settled in the Boston area after immigration in the 1800's. We know much less about this family, but his mother's maiden name was Solomon. ---- IN LINKS BELOW, SEE ITEMS WITH A (1) FOR DETAIL ON THIS PART OF THE FAMILY -- also descendant reports for Yossel Berger, Shimel Zak, and Louis Lipson (note these outlines overlap). Also see descendant report for Abrum Wolfson in the "Related Files". (2) The family of my father, Kenneth William Berger ---- Ken's father Philip's family name was Boruchowicz until immigration to the US in the first part of the 20th century (after WWI), and is not related to the "Boston Bergers". ---- Ken's mother Esther was part of the Kesser family, which may have been Kassar/Kazar/Kasser/Keser" in Vilna (Vilnius) before immigration in the early 20th century. Her mother's maiden name was Heller. ---- IN LINKS BELOW, SEE ITEMS WITH A (2) FOR DETAIL ON THIS PART OF THE FAMILY, and descendant reports for Chaim Yehuda Heller and Joseph Boruchowicz (note these outlines overlap). NOTES ON USING THIS SITE: Some of the information is password-protected for privacy reasons; please contact me if you would like access. Specifically, the "GEDCOM" tree includes quite a lot of information on each person, where available. They are easy to use if you read the brief instructions. The photos on this site are sized for on-screen viewing; I can circulate a CD of higher-resolution files that would be much better for printing if desired. Please let me know if you have information to add or correct, or additional old family photos. Also if you would like to research more about your own branch, your help is welcome! Enjoy! |
