There was a Hiram Bias who served in the War of 1812. He was in the Flying Camp (McDowell's) Virginia Milita. Maybe a brother of Jesse? Searched through 1827 (no lists for 1824-1926) . Jesse disappears after 1814, and Armstrong after 1816. Probably means Jesse's childred weren't born in Kentucky. Found one BIAS, a Nancy Bias to a Jesse Smith in Lincoln County 4-1-1793. Lot's of Breahear's listed with assorted spellings. According to Barbara Pugh, who did a survey of the Rolla Cemetery, the Union Army used this site as a burial grounds for their dead. Mr. Claude Null of Null and Sons Funeral Home told Ms. Pugh that they have found a trench across the cemetery where many troops were put without monuments. It is just a mass grave that runs through the cemetery. The Government may or maynot have kept records of who was buried in this way. According to another document listing body removal, the government removed bodies from the Rolla cemetery and put them in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. It appears that Hirum served in Captain Stone's Cavalry, Company A, Ozark County Missouri H.G. (Home Guard). These records were hard to find, as the Home Guard records are not with the regular military records. According to a copy of the "record of Allowances" he entered the service as a private on July 15 (16) 1861 in Ozark County, Missouri, and was discharged from the Home Guard on October 18, 1861 after serving 3 months and 2 days. Since he died with his father-in-law in 1862, he must have re-enlisted in a different unit in Rolla. In 1900 census, son Gideon says his father was born in Kentucky, not Illinois Not listed in the 1850 Taney Missouri Census. There is a Catherine Bass, daughter of Jeremiah and Martha Bass, born about 1837, living in Clear Creek Township, Washington, Arkansas during the 1850 census. They live about 25 houses away from Jesse Bias. Catherine's brother is Redding Bass. The second wife of Armstrong Bias is listed as Catherine Hawkins and Catherine Bass depending on sources. With Catherine Bass having a brother Redding, it might explain how the second child of Armstrong got the name John Redding Bias. Notes for Catherine Hawkins: There is confusion about this lady. Abner Maxey, 56, died at the county home late Monday night following an illness of two weeks. Funeral services were held there Tuesday afternoon. The Rev. B. Hart, a retired minister, conducting the services. Buriel was made in the the city cemetery. Maxey's mother, Mrs. Lydia Maxey, and her daughter, Abby Maxey, are also inmates of the county home. The three were brought to the home from near Robinson (AR) about 30 years ago and have been wards of the county since then. The national index search wasn't helpful either. I looked at all Hiram's born 1860-1864 in the state of Missouri with a last name starting with " A or B". No census listing in entire US. I didn't check the "C-Z" just cause most folks get the first letters of a name correct. Hiram was a moonshiner who made his drink in Oklahoma, then transported it to Arkansas to sell. He may have killed two men besides his wife(s). According to family lore, a man made fun of his long hair, so he slit his throat, at a church. Hiram fled to Oklahoma where the law was tracking him. A lawman found him hid out in a wagon, but Hiram shot the lawman and killed him. Oklahoma was Indian Territory then, so any records of this might be hard to find Marriage license to Ida Belle Steward showed Hirum was living in Franklin Township, Marion, Arkansas.
