Notes for Daniel Charles Bickford: Daniel Bickford is the main topic of this family research. His past reaches back to the New England States where he was born October 13, 1781. At present his ancestor and sibling are unknown to this writer. I have traced Daniels root thru Ontario, Canada were he may have married Eunice Trask Knapp. Eunice had been previously married to a Jonathan or John Knapp and they had one child named Abigial. It is believed that Jonathan Knapp may have died around the time of Abigail birth which was November 1811. Daniel and Eunice married in January 1814 and their first son, Jonathan Knapp Bickford, was born in September 1814 in Ontario, Canada. Daniel was 34 years old at this time.
At age 42, of the year 1822 Daniel took up land in Seneca County, Ohio and later in Crawford County Ohio. He purchased land from the federal goverment on a land bounty. Daniel may have been a soldier in the War of 1812. A Daniel Bickford was found in the muster roll of the War of 1812.
During his stay in Ohio he raised a family of seven children including Abigail Knapp. At the age of 56, he moved his family west to Michigan and settled in Algansee Township in Branch County. Here he purchased 120 acres of land on Lester Road near Fremont Rd. and Lester Cemetery. His son also purchased land on Fremont Road near what is known as Hughey's store. (Present day known as J & L Store, on the southeast corner of Fremont Rd. and Central Rd).
Daniel died at the age of 79 at his home and was buried at Lester Cemetery. Eunice is also buried beside him and she died a year before him. Daniel youngest son Stephen took over the farm and continued to farm it until his death in 1906.
Note: There is not a record of Daniel's death at the Branch County Courthouse, unless its tucked away in the basement.
