Was a Most Honored and respected Citizen of Algansee Township in this County.
Ira Purdy Bickford was born in Algansee Township on march 12, 1844 and died of cancer to the stomach on January 22, 1911. Age 66 years 10 months 10 days . He had been suffering with his stomach for a number of months, but the cause of the trouble was not known until a few weeks ago.
For the last three weeks his suffering has been intense and death came as a welcome release from pain. He bore his afflictions with remarkable patience and was perfectly satisfied with the care of wife and children and happy in the knowing of Thier presence with him in the last hours.
October 22nd. 1865 he was united in marriage to Mary Craig. To this union were born four children, Mrs Ella Ayres of California Township, Mrs. Alice Hughey, Bert Bickford and Dora Goodwin of Algansee Township. His life was spent in Algansee Township, he being a farmer by occupation.
Eight years ago he and his wife moved to the farm where he was born, known as the Johnathan Bickford place and there he entered into rest. He was honest and upright in his dealings, a friend to the needy, and an accommodating friend and neighbor. The death of this esteem able citizen is mourned by an extensive circle of acquaintances. He leaves, beside those above mentioned, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and one brother, C.M. Bickford of Helena, Oklahoma. The funeral services were held at the Baker School House at 11 o'clock January 25, 1911, Rev. Perry Gray officiating and internment made in Lester Cemetery. OBIT: See Mary's scrapbook. Ira Bickford, a son of Jonathan Bickford, is 35 years of age and was born on the same farm upon which he now lives. The maiden name of Mrs. Bickford was Craig; she was born in Sandusky county, O.; has lived in Michigan 25 years and is 33 years of age.
