2. BENJAMIN JOSEPH2 TOMPKINS (BENJAMIN1) was born February 11, 1817 in Virginia, and died September 23, 1875 in Weatherford, Texas. He married NANCY JANE STEELE March 10, 1836 in Logan Co., Kentucky. She was born August 29, 1815 in Kentucky, and died December 1, 1893.

Benjamin and Nancy moved from Schuyler Co., Mo. to Parker Co., Texas near Weatherford, Texas in 1859. They previously had lived in Illinois(1837-1841) and had been married in Logan Co., Kentucky.

NOTE FROM FRANK WEST, HARLINGEN, TEXAS:

Grandmother Thompkins had one brother named Isaac Steele. He and his Wife visited Her from Illinois in 1880. Grandma was born in Illinois. She told of Mormon Trouble in 1840. Grandad Thompkins helped to survey much of the land in West Texas back in Indian times. Wherever He went, He carried seeds of apples, peaches, and plums and planted them along creek bottoms and by springs. He was Scotch and Grandma was as Irish as Patty's pig.
