  Notes for EDWIN KELLY JOHNSON:
MEMORY OF HALLOWEEN, 1923, BY EDWIN K. JOHNSON
On my way to school the morning after Halloween, glancing up back alleys, I saw numerous outhouses lying on their backs. Perhaps some were occupied during the hours of Halloween pranks.
As I arrived at the school ground, I saw empty cotten wagons scattered over the area and some 20 or more bales of cotten around the newly completed high school building. On the roof of the new building was a wagon, completely assembled. The wagon had been disassembled and reassembled on the roof.
In those days, there was no milk in cartons available in grocery stores, so everyone had a cow in the lot behind their house. Some prankster had sneaked one of these cows from her lot and brought herto the School. As I started to enter the building, I discovered a cow tied up in the office of Supt. J. Horace Bass! I suggest you use your own imagination to complete this story, for any further comment her would be rather messy!
This, together with a number of unthinkable pranks, was what Halloween was like in 1923!
