Notes for Henry Bidewell: Children are only a supposition. See also Henry Aug 15, 1715 Death date and place also may be for the other Henry.
Any attempt to reach further back than about 1780 in the chain of our Bidewell surname ancestors is frustrated by the lack of specific documentation in the 1740-50 era. Richard Price, a professional genealogist in Salt Lake did some original work for Marie Widdison and on the strength of his work, which she shared with me we were able to link our family with James Bidwell (definitely Bidewell) and Hannah Woodbine. Their parents he claimed were Henry Bidwell and Elizabeth Lightwing. This was based upon research of the Archdeacon's Transcripts of Barford, read by another pair of genealogists, G. & F.H. Pickering. Henry Bidel, b.Brandon Parva, Aug.17, 1715, who died in Colton, Norfolk Oct 21, 1750 and married to a Frances was considered to be the parents of Henry father of James. However only the christening of Henry was provided, as being 5 Jul, 1751 at Barford. This would have been after the death of Henry Bidel and Price estimated his birth to be abt. 1744. (See note from Doug Bidewell, refering to Barford photostat of N.R.O.) Numerous Henrys are recorded in the Colton, Barford and Wymondham, Norfolk records of this time and it is difficult to link the various Henry children with the Henry parents for Bidel, Bidwell, Bydal etc. The original Brandon Parva records have never been released and there are none on the IGI or at the Soc. of Gens. John Dye and Vivian Riches did see them once by visiting the present parish clerk one Sunday afternoon at her farmhouse and reading them on her kitchen table. On the strength of their findings the John Bidewell who died 1748 in Hackford is provided as one possibility. An alternate possibility is based upon assuming that Henry Bidel, christened or born at Barford Mar. 3, 1747 and married to Elizabeth Lightwing was born to John Bidewell b.1720 possibly in East Tuddenham. However his wife's name appears to have been Mary not Frances as per Price and Pickering researchers. Were this the case, it would appear that our links go back as far as perhaps Roger Bydall b.1516 in Colton. Again the records are not that precise and a link in parantage can only be assumed between Henry Bidewell b.1656, Married to Mary Hobart and his parents being Henry Bydal, b.1632 in Colton and Rose Chapman. There is a break in the records which are held by the Norfolk Record Office for the Colton records during the early period of the Commonwealth under Cromwell.
Children of Henry Bidewell and Frances /m/ Bidewell are:
+Henry Bidewell, b. 1751, Barford, Norfolk, d. 1814, Wymondham, Norfolk.
