Hiram James Bickett (son of Anthony J. Bickett and Nancy Ann Knott) was born 28 Apr 1814 in St. Mary's, Lebanon, KY, and died 14 Oct 1884 in Coffeyville, Montgomery, KS. He married Cynthia Ann McVey on 22 Jun 1835 in Elizabethtown, Hardin, KY.

The Bicketts came from England to Virginia during colonial times. Their ancestry can be traced back to Thomas a' Becket of the 14th Century. From Virginia they spread across the mountains into Kentucky. In 1856, Hiram became one of the early settlers of Nodaway County, Missouri. He taught school in that section of the state until 1876 when he moved to Wellington, Kansas. In 1879 he bought a farm 3 miles west of Liberty, Montgomery County and lived there until his death in 1884.
