| Johann Gerlach immigrated from Germany to America in 1850, bringing with him his eldest son, Conrad, age 7. He settled in Hazleton, PA where he worked in a coal mine just long enough to save passage money for the rest of his family. Johann and his wife, Anna Eliz. Staffenberger had six children. Conrad married his first cousin, Katherine Ripple and they settled near Franklin Furnace, OH. They had thirteen children. The oldest Litteral I can trace is Daniel. He was born about 1764. At that time they spelled the name Litrell. His son, John was the first Litteral to live in Johnson County, KY. Hall's History of Johnson County, 1928, mentions some of the early Litterals. |
