I am glad to hear that we are researching a similar line. You are the first person on the net that I have found that is researching the same Calvert line as I am.

All of the information that I have are from my grandmother's notes that she collected through the years. All of the information came in one notebook and there is no proof for the generations before James (3rd generation). Information prior to this time is oral tradition. I lived in Birmingham up until 2 months ago. The Birmingham Public Library had a good bit of information for Tuscaloosa and Bibb County and I was able to find secondary sources on some of the information and in some cases add to it.

I would be interested in what oral traditions you have. We have the following oral tradition:

1. We are said to be descended from Lord Baltimore and are said to be first cousins. (I have considered the thought that this is the last Lord Baltimore, and I think that they are talking about Thomas Calvert.)
2. Thomas Calvert is said to have emigrated from Ireland in the last half of the 1700s, but no date is given. I am interested in the fact that Jane was born in Ireland. This would tie down when they came over. I think that we have that William was born in VA around 1775, but this could be incorrect.
3. Thomas is said to have come over with 2 or 3 brothers. One went north, two went south and one went ?.
4. The family is said to be Scotch Irish Presbyterian.
5. The family is said to have lived in Va and Maryland prior to moving to TN.
6. James Calvert was born in E. TN around 1805. Location names include Rogersville and Wartrace. Wartrace may be Rutherford's Wartrace in E. TN and there is also a Wartrace in middle TN.

Sevier Co. might be another place to look. A Rebecca Calvert (b. 1792) married Benjamin Hubbert/ Hubbard there. Benjamin Hubbard is found with the Calverts in Al/TN. Robert Calvert is said to be the father of Rebecca. They could be related to William and Jane, but I do not know how.

I think that I also found them in midddle Tn prior to their move to AL.

I speculate that William participated in the War of 1812 or the Indian War around that time. I have not found a military record yet. George Hill was in the Indian War and his name is frequently found on lists with William.

James:
b. 1805 E. TN
moved to Bibb Co., AL in 1813
moved to Talledega Co., AL around 1828
moved to Clay Co., MS around 1836

His brother Robert lived in Bibb/Tusc Co until 1836 when he move to Saline Co., Ark and then moved to Robertson Co., TX. The town of Calvert, Tx is named after him.

I use Brother's Keeper, which will handle gedcom files. My email will accept file attachments if you would like to send it by email.

Take care. Beth
