      According to the Marriage Licences 1796 - 1832 in Somerset County, Maryland - William W. Layfield married Molly Montgomery from Virginia on January 15, 1828.

      A hand written letter to Madolyn Billmire from Francis B Culver. Looking for ancestors of the Layfields. According to this letter there were 11 children, but only 8 children are named.

Dear Mrs Billmire:
      At last, I have something more about the Layfields. Heard from Mrs Mealy who game me the name and address of Marion L Elliott. This is what he says: William W Layfield, captain of a sailing vessel, married a Miss Montgomery of Virginia. Lived in Baltimore and then removed to Oxford, MD. Had eleven children:

      James T Layfield who married Sarah E Jefferson
      Elizabeth Layfield who married Louis F Wakeman (moved to                   Louisiana about 1870)
      Sarah Layfield who died at age 20
      Adelaide Layfield who married John Sewell of MD
      Priscilla Layfield who died at age 20
      Robert Layfield who died early in life
      William Layfield who died early in life
      Ella Virginia Clay Layfield who married William Henry Elliott

      It appears that W. W Layfield married a second wife, Mary A. Kinnamon of St. Michaels, MD

      Census 1850 - Talbot County, Maryland, there were 8 children from William W. Layfield. William had remarried to a Mary D. (Kinnamon) Layfield of St. Michaels, Maryland on November 16, 1846.

Notes for LOUIS F. WAKEMAN:
Lewis Budd Wakeman joined the Yankee navy in 1855, rank Sail maker. He served until the end of the war and resigned in 1865 in New Orleans where he and the family lived for some time. He continued to make sails on his own account. In the 1880s he took a job as the skipper on a Light ship located in the sound off the LA/MS coast. In 1885 he was struck by lightning while on duty and needless to say he never was the same after.

In 1870 moved to Louisana.
