George Bird was born Abt. 1783 in Bodenstown, County Kildare, Ireland, and died date unknown. He married Alice Crompton.

Notes for George Bird:
The original George BIRD was born in Abt 1783 in Bodenstown, County Kildare, Ireland. George enlisted in the 44th Regiment of Foot on 3rd September 1803 at Naas, Kildare for unlimited service. He was then aged 20. His total service in the 44th was 26yrs 24days of which 61 days were as Corporal and 23yrs 34 days as Serjeant, being discharged on 26 Sept. 1829, aged 46. George served in India from 14 Nov 1822 to 23 Aug 1829. It was here that Thomas BIRD was born in 1823. In 1829 George and the family returned to England, being discharged to Chelsea Pensioners Hospital , 11 Nov 1829 with a worn out constitution due to long service.
George and his wife Alice (nee CROMPTON) went on to have a further 4 children born in Manchester. Little is known about George and Alice after this time, however son George emigrated to NZ in Abt 1860.
