Find Family

My Spivey's arrived in Monroe Co., TN sometime after 1876 from Union Co., GA. They are found on the 1880 Monroe Co. Census. Adniram Spivey (widower of Evaline Souther-Spivey) came to Monroe Co., TN sometime after 1876 and before 1880. With him came his second wife, Sarah Hazeltine Corn-Spivey, two sons from his marriage to Evaline (Thomas and James)and two young daughters born to him and Sarah. By 1886 they had three more sons and sometime before 1898 Adniram and his family moved back to GA. Their son James, my great grandfather, remained in Monroe Co. and married Mary Elizabeth Rhea of Tellico Plains. To them eight children were born, two of them, Maggie Beatrice Spivey and Luther "Luke" Adniram Spivey, married a Ellis brother and sister. (James's ancestry goes back through to Adniram, Leason, James, then Jonas)

Other ancestral names associated with this Spivey family are; Souther, Jackson, Combs, Hayes, Nance, Rhea, Smalling, Cameron, Craig, Blair, Hughes, Paul, Bussey, Harris, James, Hudspeth.

My Ellis's arrived in Monroe Co., after 1888 from Cherokee Co., NC. They are found on the 1900 Monroe Co., Census. From what I can figure, my great grandfather John Allen Ellis, the well known preacher of Coker Creek, may have been the first to come into Monroe Co., from Cherokee Co., NC. He is found on the 1900 census with his wife, Lucinda Cordelia Kilby, children and mother, Martha Jane Starnes-Ellis. John's father, James Aphonzo "Fonds" Ellis supposedly had died 1883 in Ogreeta, Cherokee Co., NC. The Rev. John Ellis remained in TN for the rest of his life, as did most of his family. One of his sons, Fonds Allen Ellis, and a daughter, Ora Lee Ellis, are the one's who married the Spivey's above. (Rev. John Allen Ellis's ancestry goes back through; James Aphonzo; Allen; Joshua, then Samuel Sr.)

Other ancestral names associated with this Ellis family are Kilby, Wilson, Brown, Harmon, Pilgrim, Weeks, Starnes, McGinty/McGinis, Dockey, Graves, Allen, Ball, Summer, etc.
