'Words are men's daughters but God's sons are things.'A reference said to have been inserted by Dr Johnson in Samuel Madden's work, "Boulter's Monument (1745), although some have attributed the quotation to Madden himself.
Recognizing that I hadn't produced very much for posterity, other than assist in bringing a couple of sons in to the world, with an early retirement on my hands, the idea grew of the compilation of a family history with a bit of a difference. Something that hopefully, members of one or other branches of the family, now or in the future, might appreciate and consider worthwhile to expand or extend as an organic, continuing effort from time to time.
Surnames Blair, Grevatt, Hanrahan, Hide, Norman, Rogers, Teasdale, Baker-Carr, Whittaker, and many more, in all their various lettered forms are being researched and to date has traced through four centuries, four continents, eight countries and at least five counties in England, and in many cases visits have been paid to source, authenticate and produce material for the construction of the final work as a reliable record of family history.
I originally set the Millennium as my own target for the completion of my effort, but, that has come and gone.Whatever the outcome, unlike most commercial publications, anyone is welcome to use the information gathered to further there own work in producing their family history, and likewise, I would appreciate any help in my own efforts.
