BLAIR Generation I Records show that EDWARD BLAIR *genl* in September 1834 bought the East 1/2, Lot 29, 6th Concession, Roxborough Township, Stormont County, Upper Canada (now Ontario). His brother Robert Blair purchased in 1836 the West 1/2 Lot 29, 6th Concession. Both 1/2 Lots where approx 100 acres and were purchased from a Michael O'Hara. EDWARD BLAIR died in 1850 at age 40 years (born 1810, County Derry, Ireland (as per tombstone, 6th Concession Cemetery, Lodi). EDWARD's wife (widow) SARAH BLAIR sold the property to EDWARD's brother Robert in 1866. The same day Robert sold this property to his son Joseph for $500.00. In the 1851 Canadian Census Records SARAH BLAIR shows her place of birth as Ireland and her age as 40 years (born 1811) Her oldest son Robert was listed as age 22 (born 1830) in Canada. Emigration therefore occurred between 1810 and 1830. EDWARD's brother Robert (born 1790) and wife Rose (born 1791) had 3 children: James(I817), Alexander(I821), and Joseph(l825) all shown as born in Ireland. It seems that Edward emigrated to Canada before brother Robert as records indicate Robert emigrated through Philidelphia approx 1836, after Edward purchased Lot 29. Children of EDWARD and SARAH BLAIR from the 1851 Canada Census: Robert(1830), EDWARD*gen2*(1833), Alexander(1836), Jane(1837), Joseph(l840), Nicholas(I843), James(I845), William(l847), Roberta (l849) After selling the property in 1866 to EDWARD's brother there is no further record of SARAH therefore presumed she left the area or remarried. There is no further record of children Robert, Joseph, and Roberta, therefore may have left the area with SARAH. [See addendum in file below “In Search of Robert Blair (1831)” for new breaking information]. On the same tombstone as their father EDWARD BLAIR*genl*are listed children: Alexander (died age 25 years), Nicholas (died age 16 years), James (died age 3 years) and William (died age 2 years) It is also indicated that Jane is buried in the same cemetery but Jane is not listed on this tombstone (?). In the same cemetery (tombstone beside the original) is son EDWARD BLAIR*gen2* (the tombstone shows dates as 1830 to l913, a contradiction to the above listed birth date (as per 1851 Census) of being born in 1833. The 1871 Census lists this EDWARD BLAIR as age 37 birthplace Ontario, Stormont County, Roxborough Township, religion Canada Presbyterian, ethnic origin Irish, occupation Farmer (indicating 1833 is the likely the proper date). On this tombstone you also find listed EDWARD's wife Vitalene Lalonde (I858 to 1949) and his son EDWARD JOSEPH BLAIR*gen3 * (I882 to 1975) and EDWARD JOSEPH's wife Lottie (Carlotta Louisa) Hutt (I883 to 1953). On the original tombstone of EDWARD BLAIR*genl* there is listed a name Ellen Stewart. Died Jan 9,1881 at 50 years (born 1831) A Native of Antrim Ireland, Wife of Edward Blair. Records show Ellen Stewart married Edward Blair*gen2* on November 11,1869. therefore being the first wife of EDWARD BLAIR*gen2* before his marriage to Vitalene Lalonde. It is also intersteing to note that in the 1881 Census there is listed a Sarah Stewart, age 13, attending school, who is living with Edward Blair. This could be Ellen Stewart's daughter from a previous marriage. The Cemetery on the 6h Concession is on the corner of the property originally owned by EDWARD and SARAH BLAIR which indicates the practice of having private family cemeteries on family farms. The cemetery was deeded to the Canada Presbyterian Church in Roxborough in 1870 for the sum of $20.00 by Joseph and Nancy Blair (descendants of EDWARD's brother Robert Blair). Above written by Elizabeth Devolin (nee Blair) The Blair line: Edward Blair (1810 - 1850) & Sarah Harris ==> Edward Blair (1833 - 1913) & Vitalene Lalonde ====> Edward Joseph Blair (1882 - 1975) & Lottie Hutt ======> Cyril Blair (1902 - 1968) & Aili Sofia Wuario ========> Robert R.
