The Jacksons and Blantons of Magoffin Co., KentuckyUpdated September 21, 2002 | I am researching the Jackson Family of Magoffin County, Kentucky. My earliest known ancestor is John Jackson, born in Virginia and married to Mary "Pop" Minix.John was a confederate soldier, and they were known as good neighbors. I have the name of John's mother as Lavina Smith, but family stories have it that she had children before she married James Jackson in 1848.Virginia census records show this as correct, but I am not sure if her last name of Smith is her maiden name, or is the name of another husband.Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I am also researching the Blantons of Magoffin County. There are two families in my line, George Blanton and wife Martha Shepherd, who settled in Johnson Co., Ky.Also is James D. Blanton and Margaret Trimm's son, Madison Blanton, who married Ailsey Blanton, the daugter of George and Martha.James D. and George are believed to have been brothers.If you are working on this line, please feel free to contact me. |
