Some Blezard background:

The name "Blezard" is a spelling variant of "Bleazard". Back in the day the spelling of your surname was not as fixed as it is now so it is very likely that if you have a Blezard or a Bleazard in your tree, they are from the same stock but the link is further back than can be distinguised at present.

The Blezards ( as family rumour has it ) are descended from refugee French Protestants (Hugenots) who fled France for England and found their niche amongst British society. The Blezards seemed to have favoured the area that was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, and now is part of Lancashire. This area is known as the Trough of Bowland and it seems that many Blezards/Bleazards were born and lived their lives in this area.

More of them moved up north to the Lake District, settling in and around Ulverston, Barrow-in-Furness, Kendal and other areas of Cumbria, but if you look around Slaidburn, Bolton-by-Bowland and the Clitheroe area there should be some Bleazard graves in the local churchyards.

Some Fishwick Background:

The Fishwick line (my mother's line) began with Robert (1795-1866) and Sarah Fishwick, who had a daughter named Sarah (1829-1894). They lived in the Beverley/Hessle/Hull areas of the East Riding of Yorkshire, and to this day my extended family still live in the area. When Sarah was seventeen she fell pregnant and gave birth to an illegitimate son named David (1846-?), who kept her maiden surname. No one is sure who the father was as David's birth certificate omitted this information.

On 30 September 1856 Sarah married Edward Phillippo and left David to live with his grandparents until he eventually left home and married Amy Hotham in 1874. Sarah had five more children with her husband Edward Phillippo before her death in Beverley in 1894. Her son David continued the Fishwick line to this day.
