      4. Mary Anna2 Klees (George1) was born May 14, 1792, and died Abt. 1873 in Hoppestown, Plunkett's Creek Twp., Lycoming Co. PA. She married Michael Hoppes Abt. 1815, son of Jacob Hoppes and Mary. He was born Abt. 1789 in Pennsylvania, and died Abt. 1872 in Hoppestown, Plunket's Creek Twp., Lycoming Co., PA.

Notes for Michael Hoppes:
He moved to Lycoming Co., PA before 1830.

The land agreement his father had imposed on Michael drove a wedge between them. Michael decided to explore the awesome Susquehanna River, floating down the east branch to Northumberland and then ascending the west branch to Muncy where he and his wife settled and eventually founded the town of Hoppestown on a branch of Plunkett's Creek above Montoursville.

In 1820 census the family were living in Union Twp., Luzern Co., PA

In 1830 census shows them in Muncy Twp., Lycoming Co., PA probably in present day Plunkett's Twp..

Between the villages of Proctor and Hillsgrove is a very small village named Hoppestown, consisting of several homes and a badly neglected cemetery containing several Hoppes stones. Probably many more of the Hoppes family are buried there in unmarked graves. There had been a one-room school at Hoppestown.

" James Black was born Oct. 28, 1820, and came to Sullivan Coumty about 1850, and built a gristmill at Forksville, which he operated until his death. Mr. Black was married three times. His first wife was Margaret Bryan, his second wife Saloma Hoppes, and his third wife, Mary Jane Rogers, a daughter of Moses Rogers, of Forksville. Mr. Black had no children by his second wife." he goes on to give names of children by 1st & 3rd wives.
