OHN BOBBITT, LT.:
Sept. 24, 1778, Court Order Book 4, page 156, Pittsylvania County, Virginia was appointed a Second Lieutenant in the Militia of this County, he took the oath as Prescribed by law. He was a soldier in the fourth regiment and listed as a descendant of John Bobbitt of Sandy Level, Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was listed as a casually, in a hospital, and gave Mr. Briggs consent to accept his final pay on his behalf (5 pounds,12 shillings) as of a pay voucher dated 1778.
His family moved to Halifax County on land which later became Pittsylvania County. A deed Record in Halifax County on January 4, 1764 shows the transfer of the 160 acres of land on the Pigg River where he was currently living to his possession from that of his maternal grandparents, Timothy and Elizabeth Dalton for the token sum of 5 shillings. He already possessed land next to this which was willed to him by his father in 1761. In 1769, there is a record that John Bobbitt owned 400 acres of land adjoining his brother William Bobbitt, on Frying Pan Creek. On August 16, 1810, John sold the last of his land on the Pigg River in Pittsylvania County, leaving Randolph as the only brother still there. He actually left in 1794, when he moved to Amherst County, where he was on the tax lists of Lexington Parish.
