This information was given me from Phil Champion: Sept 14 1998 I have found some interesting information on Johnathan Haigh. He was christened onSept 22 1812 and was the son of David and Jane Haigh. He was married on April 6 1828 and had a son Johanthan christened on April13, 1828. Yes, just 7 days later. This son must have died because there is no mention of him coming to the U.S. The Location of birth of Johnathan was Holmfirth, Lane Independent, W. Workshire England. I also found the birthplace and date of his first daughter Emma. Date of christening was October 24, 1841. High Hoyland, W. Yorkshire, England. There was a second daughter born in England prior to them moving to WI.
This information was sent from Barbara Rochford to Carolyn Drews

SUSAN HAIGH hOTCHKISS
Susan(Haigh)Hotchkiss was my grandmother. She was a short, plump, pretty lady with a very even disposition. I think she would have to be, in order to survive having 15 children. She told me she sewed and knitted stockings for all of the family. Belle was the oldest of the children. She helped care for all the younger children. Grandma loved to cook, knit, chrochet, embroider and tat. I was ill when I was 9 and I spent a year with grandpa and grandma in the big house in Fergus Falls. They were both very kind to me. She was about 2 years older than grandpa but he always seemed the oldest. I have received the following information about her family from her niece Susan (Haigh) Welch, who now lives in California. Grandma's parents were Johnathan Haigh, born in England in 1811 and Hannah(Jackson)Haigh, born in England in 1816. They had a number of children before coming America. I believe the following children were born in England and the U.S. on these dates. Emma Haigh - Born October 24, 1841 - England Rachel Haigh - Haigh Born England - Died aboard ship and was buried at sea. Elizabeth Haigh - 1846 - England Joseph Haigh - 1848 - Omro, Wisconsin (Robert) Victor Haigh 1849 - Omro Wisconsin Susan Haigh - November 1851 - Omro Wisconsin John Haigh Sr. July 10, 1853 - Omro Wisconsin Charles Haigh July 1855 Omro Wisconsin (Helen) Jane Haigh 1857 - Omro Wisconsin
Illness broke out aboard ship when they came over and Little Rachel died. The captain performed a short funeral service and her body was thrown overboard. My grandma used to tell me about her burial at sea. I was horrified andfascinated by the story. My grandma Susan and her sister Jennee (Jane) were born in this country as were four brothers.
The Haigh's had a family crest. It was "TYDE WHAT MAY" or in other words, Come What may I can take it". This good for all of us to follow.

His leg was broken on the ship to the U.S. He was a Democrat and during the Civil War was thought to be a Southern sympathizer, which he was not. A gang came after him in the barn.
