He was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church, former president of Farm Bureau, member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion and a Kentucky Colonel. Preceding him in death were: his parents, Joseph Leonard and Susan Mary Phillips Mudd, his wife, Mary Helen Spalding Mudd; and one daughter, Helen Ann Mudd. Survivors include: seven daughters, Mrs. Clarissa Kelly and Mrs. Hazel Thompson of Lebanon, Mrs. Maggie Hayden and Mrs. Dianne Simi of Lexington, Sister Susan Mary Mudd OSU of Louisville, Mrs. Benita Riney and Mrs. Dolores Ann Thompson of Owensboro; five sons, Victor and Charles Robert Jr. of Lebanon, Joseph Ellert and Joseph Lawrence of Louisville and Leonard Mudd of Bardstown; 36 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. MUDD, JOSEPH ELLERT, 73, of Louisville, passed away Sunday at his home. He was a native of Lebanon, Ky, a retired employee for Phillip Morris USA and a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church. Joe's early years were spent on the family farm in Lebanon. He was a deeply religious man, having formerly served the Congregation of the Resurrectionists, by serving at St. Cecilia and Resurrection Churches in Louisville, and at the Cathedral of St. Theresa in Bermuda. He built several grottos in honor of the Blessed Mother. His hobbies included typesetting, photography, oil painting and music, being quite accomplished on several instruments. Joe Ellert always welcomed a challenge and shared everything he had with all. Joe Ellert was preceded in death by his parents, Charles R. Mudd Sr. and Mary Helena Spalding Mudd, and two sisters, Hazel Marie Thompson and Helen Ann Mudd. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Patricia Marirea Mudd; his siblings, Joseph Victor Mudd Sr. (Pauline) of Lebanon, Clarissa Kelly and Leonard D. Mudd Sr. (Louise), all of Bardstown, Ky, Dolores Ann Thomson (Francis) and Frances Benita Riney (Larry Sr.) all of Owensboro, Ky, Sister Susan Mary Mudd of Mount St. Joseph at Maple Mount, Ky, Charles Robert Mudd, Jr. of Lebanon, Mary Magdalene Hayden (Patrick Sr.) and Mary Dianne Simi (Victor) all of Lexington, Ky, and Joseph Lawrence Mudd (Brenda) of Louisville and several nieces and nephews. FRANCIS BERNARD THOMPSON, 76, Lebanon, died Thursday, March 16, 2006, at Cedars of Lebanon Nursing Center, Lebanon. He was born Oct. 4, 1929, in New Haven. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a retired storekeeper of G.L. Thompson Grocery, New Haven. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Marie Mudd Thompson; his parents, Joseph Lawrence and Mary Theresa Hagan Thompson; and two brothers, Charles Michael and Patrick X. Thompson. Survivors include two sisters, Therese M. Lawson and Pauline Mudd, both of Bardstown; two brothers, Joe Lawrence Thompson, Bardstown, and John E. Thompson, Simpsonville; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church, St. Mary, with burial in St. Charles Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Young will be celebrant of the Mass. Visitation is 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, with a vigil service at 5:30 p.m. Mattingly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

DEATH CLAIMS YOUNG FARMER - VICTOR MUDD STRICKEN WITH TYPHOID IS UNCONSCIOUS UNTIL END - ILL ONLY ABOUT TEN DAYS. VICTOR MUDD, a well known young farmer of the county, passed away at his home on the Cissell River Pike a few miles from town early Monday morning. Death was due to typhoid fever. He had been in his usual good health until being stricken about ten days ago. News of his passing came as a shock to his family and friends. He never regained consciousness after being stricken. Mr. Mudd was 32 years old, having been born in this county April 5, 1897, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Len Mudd. He spent his entire life in the community where he was born. He was a kind, loving husband and father and was a member of the Catholic church. besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, who was Miss Nina Fenwick of Springfield, and five children. They are Eva, Omar, Leon, Cyril and Clitus, the two oldest of whom are quite ill with typhoid fever and pneumonia. He is also survived by two sisters, Sister Corsina of Lorreto Convent, Loretto, and Mrs. Parker Osborne and one brother, Charles Robert Mudd of this county. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Frank Jaglowicz, were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 o'clock at St. Charles Church, and burial was in the church cemetery. Buried in St. Charles Cemetery, St. Mary's, Ky. Section B, Card 13, # 210. MRS. NINA MUDD DIES AT 66, of Lebanon, widow of J. Victor Mudd, died at 2:35 a.m., Friday at Our Lady of the Woods Nursing Home in Louisville. She had been ill several months. She underwent surgery at a Louisville hospital in the summer and after improving, suffered a fractured hip in a fall. Again, she seemed to be recovering, but complications developed, causing her death. She was a Washington County native, daughter of George W. and Margaret Litsey Fenwick, but for many years had been a Marion County resident. She and her husband were married at St. Dominick Church, Springfield, on February 12, 1917. He died in June, 1929. For a number of years she had served as a practical nurse here. She was a member of St. Augustine Church and its Christian Mothers Society. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Leon Mattingly, Lebanon; four sons, Cletus Mudd, Lebanon; Cyril Mudd, Louisville; Leon Mudd, Bedford, Ind., and Omer Mudd, Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Leonard Fenwick, Route 2, Lebanon; two sisters, Mrs. Margie Keene, Louisville, and Miss Lela Fenwick, Junction City, and 12 grandchildren. The body was at Bosley Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Monday when funeral services were conducted at St. Augustine Church by the Rev. Joseph E. Mudd. Interment was in St. Charles Cemetery. The pallbearers were Wathen Fenwick, Joe Fenwick, Benedict Osborne, Henry Osborne, Victor and Joe Lawrence Mudd. The book about St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Cemetery, by Gerald Thompson, states that her marker has the inscription: "Nina F. Mudd b. 11-05-1897 - d. 12-06-1963."
The following article was in The Lebanon Enterprise, Thursday, 12-19-1963.
Mrs. Mudd's will, dated July 20, 1963, provides first for debts and burial expense and specifies that $100 is to go to the pastor of St. Augustine Church for masses. Balance of her estate, she directs, is to be sold and the proceeds divided equally among her five children--Mrs. Eva Mattingly, Omer Mudd, Leon Mudd, Cyril Mudd and Cletus Mudd. The latter is named executor, with full power to sell and convey. Mrs. Mudd died on December 6 at a Louisville nursing Home.
